Imagine a dog sitting at a laptop, scrolling through pages of supplier listings, squinting at photos, reading reviews, comparing prices, occasionally tilting their head at something suspicious. That image is half a joke and half exactly what product sourcing should feel like: someone who actually cares about dogs, sitting down and doing the boring work of finding the right things.
A lot of online stores skip that step. They use software that automatically imports trending products, mark them up 4x, run ads, and hope. The dog at the laptop is missing. The dog at the laptop is the whole point.
Here's how product sourcing actually works at Midello, and why it matters for what ends up in your cart.
How most "trending product" stores work
It's worth being honest about the industry context, because most customers don't know how it works behind the scenes.
The standard fast-growth playbook looks like this:
- Open a tool that scrapes "winning products" from Asian marketplaces
- Sort by what's trending this week
- Import the top 50 listings directly into Shopify with one click
- Set prices at 3–5x the supplier cost
- Run ads
- If something works, scale it. If not, swap the product out next week.
It's not necessarily dishonest. It's just optimized for one thing: speed. Find what's trending, sell it before the trend dies, move on.
The problem for the customer is that nobody in that chain has ever held the product. Nobody knows if the silicone is food-safe or just labelled that way. Nobody has measured the actual size to check it matches the description. Nobody has tested whether the leak-proof bottle is actually leak-proof. The dog at the laptop is gone — replaced by a software algorithm picking products it doesn't understand.
Those stores also tend to ship directly from the manufacturer for every single order, which means 20–40 day shipping times and almost no quality control between you and the factory. And when something goes wrong, the support address is a contact form that nobody answers.
How we do it at Midello
We're a small Scandinavian brand. We're not pretending we run a factory in Oslo — we don't. What we do have is a focused catalog of products we've chosen carefully, a fulfillment partner who holds stock of every product for us, and a real support team you can actually reach.
That setup is genuinely different from the import-and-hope model. Here's what it means in practice:
1. Our products are in stock when you order
Our fulfillment agent holds inventory of every item on midello.eu — not in a factory waiting to be made, but ready to ship. When you place an order, it gets picked from existing stock. We're not waiting for the supplier to make it.
2. Orders are fulfilled within 2 working days
Monday to Friday, any order placed gets fulfilled within two working days. That means picked, packed, and handed off to the carrier. We don't sit on orders for a week before processing them.
3. Total delivery is up to 10 days
From when you click "buy" to when the box is at your door, you're looking at a maximum of around 10 days across most EU destinations. Slower than a local Amazon warehouse, dramatically faster than the 20–40 days you see on stores that ship directly from the factory for every order.
We're honest about the timeline upfront. We'd rather quote 7–10 working days and have orders arrive in 6 than promise 3 and disappoint half our customers.
4. Real support, by a real person, on a real phone
This is the part most of our competitors don't offer, and it's where Midello genuinely beats Amazon, Temu, AliExpress, and the typical Shopify dropship store:
- Live customer support, Monday to Friday. A real human reading your message and responding — not a chatbot.
- A phone number that actually works. Call +47 40 19 21 00 before you order, during your order, or after it arrives. Most online stores hide their phone number on purpose. Ours is at the bottom of every page.
- 30-day open purchase return policy. Don't like the product? Doesn't fit? Changed your mind? You have 30 days to return it. Clearly stated on the homepage so there are no surprises.
Try calling Amazon's support line about a third-party seller's order. Try getting a human at Temu when a package doesn't arrive. Try emailing the random dropship store that imported a trending product last Tuesday. You'll find what most customers eventually find: nobody picks up. At Midello, we do.
The work that happens before a product reaches the store
The fulfillment side is one half of it. The other half is how we choose what to stock in the first place. The dog at the laptop spends most of their time here.
The shortlist
Every product on midello.eu started as one of dozens we considered. We look at trending dog products, sure — but we also look at problems we've actually run into as dog owners. Cold paws on winter walks. Anxious dogs at New Year. The constant search for a water bottle that doesn't leak in your bag. Each product on the site exists because there's a real problem behind it.
Supplier comparison
For each potential product, there are usually 5–20 manufacturers offering essentially the same thing. We compare:
- Materials (food-safe silicone vs cheap silicone that smells of plastic)
- Build quality from review photos and supplier samples
- Supplier responsiveness and consistency
- Whether our fulfillment partner can reliably stock and ship the product across all the countries we serve
Many products we initially want to sell get cut at this stage. Not because the product is bad — but because the supplier behind it can't deliver consistent quality, or because the logistics chain doesn't work cleanly to every EU country.
The sample test
For products that pass the shortlist, we order samples. This isn't a dramatic test lab — it's a person opening packages and looking at things. Is the silicone smooth or gritty? Does the bottle actually seal? Does the harness clip feel like it would snap in a sudden brake, or like it would hold? Is the size what the listing said?
About a third of the products we sample get rejected. Sometimes for obvious reasons (the photos lied), sometimes for subtle ones (the material smells of factory chemicals even after a wash, which means it'll smell on your dog).
Only after a product passes the sample test does it get added to our fulfillment partner's stock and listed on the site.
What's actually on the site, and why
Right now Midello sells a focused range of dog products. We're not trying to be a 5,000-item store. Each item exists for a specific reason:
Travel water bottles — because every dog owner who hikes has had the "I forgot water and there's no stream" moment.
Rain boots and outdoor boots — because Scandinavian winters salt the roads, EU summers heat the pavement, and dogs don't have an opinion on either until their pads start bleeding.
Ear muffs for anxious dogs — because fireworks night in Norway is the worst night of many dogs' year.
Car seat belts — because an unrestrained dog is a risk to themselves and everyone else in the car, and EU enforcement is tightening on this.
Cooling mats — because European summers are getting hotter, and a panting dog on a hardwood floor doesn't need a problem solved by you opening the freezer.
Each one is a problem we've thought about, sourced for, tested where possible, and chosen carefully. The list grows slowly on purpose.
What we don't do
Worth saying clearly:
- We don't sell anything we wouldn't put on our own dog
- We don't promise 2-day delivery when realistic times are 7–10
- We don't import 500 trending products a month and hope something sticks
- We don't run aggressive countdown timers, fake reviews, or "only 2 left in stock!" pressure tactics
- We don't hide our company information — our full legal name, address, organization number, phone, and email are on every page of the site
- We don't disappear after checkout — our support phone and email work the same the day after your order as they did the day before
If you scroll to the bottom of any page on midello.eu, you'll find: Midell Consulting AS, Feiarvegen 114, 2265 Namnå, Norway, organization number 934 752 406 MVA. A real person picks up the phone at +47 40 19 21 00, Monday to Friday. For customer support, email support@midello.eu.
Why this matters
Online shopping has become quietly hostile to customers. Faceless brands. Hidden return policies. Support contact forms that nobody monitors. "Live chats" that turn out to be bots looping you through FAQs.
You don't have to put up with that to get good products at fair prices. The trade-offs we make — slower than Amazon's local warehouse, smaller catalog than Temu's everything-store — are made on purpose. In exchange, you get:
- A curated selection of products that were chosen by someone who cares
- Stock that ships within 2 working days
- Delivery up to 10 days, honestly stated upfront
- A 30-day open return policy with no fine-print surprises
- A real human you can call, email, or chat with before, during, or after your order
That's the deal. We think it's a fair one.
What's next
We're building Midello slowly. Right now we're a small Scandinavian brand serving the EU. Over the next year we'll be adding products in categories we've identified as gaps — better travel solutions, more sizes for the boots, more grooming tools — each one going through the same shortlist, sample, test process before our fulfillment partner adds it to stock.
If you have an idea for a product you wish existed, or a problem you keep running into as a dog owner that we haven't solved yet, we'd love to hear it. The dog at the laptop is taking suggestions.
Midello is designed and operated from Norway, shipping across the EU. We sell modern Scandinavian dog gear for active dogs and the people who walk, hike, and travel with them. Real company, real phone number, real returns policy. Browse the full catalog or get in touch any time.
